All smiles during Christmas Jumper Day in the #Newcastle office today raising money for Save the Children UK.

Those humbugs who genuinely or “accidentally” forgot their Christmas jumpers were happy to wear a santa hat and make an extra donation instead.

In our final post before #Christmas, here are pictures from our annual Blaydon works tradition – Christmas #carols sung by a choir of #colleagues who joined the company during the year.

This year’s performance was another triumph of enthusiasm over vocal talent – not helped by a late change in the final song from ‘Jingle Bells’ to ‘Santa Baby’ – but the smiles attest to a good time had by all.

Apprenticeships have been a core part of our business for over 95 years. This year we have taken on four further #apprentices, two at our main works in #Newcastle and two at our installation division in #Sheffield.

Kieran & Joe are studying Electrical Engineering at Tyne Metropolitan College with Tyne North Training as training provider. Joe and Myles are the 2nd and 3rd generations, respectively, of their families to work at Slaters.

We are delighted to welcome Steven Moore to the Slaters team as Project Manager – Spare Parts.

Steve joins us from Siemens (ex Reyrolle, Hebburn.) and will be leading a major project to reorganise and create a digital inventory of our vast stock of #11kV & #33kV #switchgear and #transformer spare parts & ancillary equipment.

With asset management and life extension a key focus for both #DNO and private network #substation operators, we believe that there is a significant benefit to the industry from better releasing our stock of spare parts onto the market.
