At Slaters Electricals we are committed to making long-term investments that support both our customers and the environment. As part of our journey to reduce our operational carbon footprint, we are proud to announce that we have just added our first electric van to the fleet.
The new Ford Transit Custom 320 Limited EV brings together performance, practicality, and reduced environmental impact. With an 82.5 kW battery and a manufacturer-estimated range of up to 209 miles, the vehicle is well suited to support our day-to-day operations while reducing our reliance on traditional diesel-powered transport.
Supporting Our Sustainability Journey
Transitioning from diesel to electric vehicles is a key part of our strategy to reduce Scope 1 emissions, however low ranges in commercial vehicles have not made the move feasible, until now. By integrating electric vehicles into our fleet, we are taking a proactive approach to lowering our carbon footprint and aligning with wider net zero objectives.
The van will be charged at our Blaydon facility using electricity generated from our on-site solar PV systems. This allows us to harness renewable energy to support our operations, further reducing emissions and improving overall energy efficiency.
All our non-commercial vehicles are either hybrid or full EV, and we buy nearly new to contribute to the circular economy and avoid embodied carbon on newly manufactured products. This new van is no exception being 9 months old and an ex-demonstration vehicle.

Investing in the Future
Despite ongoing economic challenges across the UK, we continue to invest in the future of our business. The addition of this electric van is not just an environmental decision, it is a statement of our confidence in the market and our commitment to growth.
By investing in modern, sustainable equipment, we are ensuring that we remain a reliable and forward-thinking partner for our customers. Delivering critical power infrastructure, our customers can trust that we are continuously improving how we operate.
A Responsible Approach to Operations
Sustainability is not a single action, it is an ongoing process of improvement across every part of our business. From refurbishing critical power infrastructure such as switchgear, transformers, and ring main units (RMUs), extending asset lifecycles, through to investing in cleaner transport solutions, we are committed to making responsible choices that support a more sustainable future.
The introduction of our first electric van is an important milestone for Slaters Electricals and we plan to add more to our fleet as vehicles need replacing. We will continue to explore new opportunities to reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and support a more sustainable future for our industry.
