Slaters Electricals Commits to a Sustainable Future by Joining the BEAMA 2050 Connected Climate Commitment

Slaters Electricals is proud to announce that we have officially signed the BEAMA 2050 Connected Climate Commitment, joining a growing network of forward-thinking organisations dedicated to accelerating the UK’s transition to a low-carbon future.

This pledge, led by BEAMA, brings together companies across the electrical industry that are committed to achieving net zero emissions and driving meaningful environmental change. By becoming a signatory, Slaters Electricals reinforces its long-standing commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices.

Jamie Slater, Managing Director at Slaters Electricals said, “This is an excellent initiative led by BEAMA, promoting collaboration among its members to help each other realise NetZero goals, fostering a more sustainable industry. We look forward to the road ahead and supporting the pledge.”

Driving Change Through Action

At Slaters Electricals, sustainability is not a new initiative, it is embedded in how we operate every day. We have been working towards reducing our own Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions over the past few years. We recognise the vital role our industry plays in shaping a cleaner, more energy-efficient future, and we are proud to already be taking significant steps, including:

  • Renewable Energy Adoption: Our Blaydon and Sheffield  facilities are both equipped with solar power, reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
  • Supporting Electric Mobility: A total of twelve EV charging points are installed on our sites, supporting the transition to electric vehicles.
  • Greener Fleet: Our company fleet has transitioned to fully electric or hybrid vehicles where feasibly possible, cutting emissions while maintaining operational efficiency.
  • Timed LED Lights: All lights in our facility are on a timer which helps to reduce energy usage when they are not in use.
  • Always Nearly New: Where possible, we strive to buy nearly new products, from machinery to works vehicles. This is to contribute to the circular economy and avoids embodied carbon on newly manufactured products.
  • Responsible Energy Procurement: We source electricity for all our sites through tariffs backed 100 percent by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin, supporting verified renewable energy generation.

These measures are part of our broader commitment to reducing our environmental footprint while continuing to deliver the high level of service our customers expect.

Supporting the Circular Economy

At the heart of our business is our refurbished electrical equipment division. By extending the life cycle of products, we help customers:

  • Reduce waste
  • Lower carbon emissions associated with manufacturing new equipment
  • Make more sustainable purchasing decisions

This approach supports the principles of the circular economy, keeping valuable materials in use for longer and minimising environmental impact.

Looking Ahead

Signing the BEAMA 2050 Connected Climate Commitment is both a milestone and a motivator. It formalises our dedication to sustainability while encouraging us to go even further in the years ahead.

We will continue to explore new ways to reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, and support our customers in achieving their own environmental goals. Collaboration across the industry will be key, and we are proud to stand alongside other organisations committed to building a more sustainable future.

A Shared Responsibility

The journey to net zero is one that requires collective effort. At Slaters Electricals, we believe that every action counts, from the way we power our operations to the solutions we provide our customers.

By joining this pledge, we reaffirm our responsibility to the environment, our customers, and future generations.

Together, we can make a difference.
