Earlier this year we received a call from a long-term customer – a leading HV Contractor – as their client had suffered the failure of a 3.5MVA 11.5/6.6kV transformer resulting in significant disruption to water utility operations.
Being a non-standard voltage, a newly manufactured replacement unit was not immediately available from our stock and would need to be manufactured to order. With extended downtime not an option for the site (a water treatment plant), the end-user faced significant generator hire and fuel costs while the replacement transformer was manufactured.
Instead, the Contractor sensibly opted to rent a suitable temporary transformer from our stock of over 300 quality used transformers.
Within days we had a 4MVA 11/6.93kV transformer from our stock delivered to site for the contractor to install with less site disruption than an equivalent generator package.
The replacement new BEST Transformer 3.5MVA 11.5/6.6kV KNAN Yyn0 transformer – well specified with accessories and fitted within a galvanised steel bund with leaf debris mesh – has now been delivered to site, installed by the Contractor and the hire transformer is back in our facility ready for the next customer who suffers an 11/6.6kV transformer failure.
